Autumn/winter 2022 Design trends for Bathrooms
Our pick of the Autumn/Winter 2022 design trends for bathrooms - highlighting the current interest in curves & mosaics.
Statement lighting has become ever more important in the bathroom. As well as being practical, around a mirror for example, it is the statement lights which can deliver ambience, personalisation and flair to the space. Chandeliers certainly add impact, and can be strikingly modern and simple – rather than looking as though they’ve come from a fusty French chateau. Pendant lights can add height to a bathroom by drawing the eye upwards, whilst the addition of a dimmer switch to traditional wall lights delivers a truly flexible environment.
Wallpaper continues to appear in bathrooms and can be used to great effect as a ‘mural’ in an alcove or behind a shelving unit. The pleated sink curtain is still clinging on in some designs – but let’s hope that is soon a fading trend.
With the current interest in curves, mosaics are a really good choice as they can be large or small, and can easily go around curved surfaces. Also on the trend list is encaustic tiles which provide a wonderful soft, matt and natural feel to the room. But tiles in general offer myriad opportunities for the designer – in colour, finish and the way in which they are laid. Not forgetting the choice of grout, now very much a feature of the best bathrooms. Choose a contrasting colour to highlight the pattern or one to match the colour of the tiles to emphasise a seamless finish.
A great way of creating more storage space in a bathroom is to use the space behind the bath panel for essential items that are better not on display.
Keeping as much as possible off the floor with hanging sanitary ware and floating vanity units is not only practical but also provides the designer with the opportunity to use the entire floor space as an unbroken artist’s canvas.
